Minnesota Bicyclist, 74, Dies Following Fatal Riley County Crash Near Manhattan
The communities of Minnetrista, Minnesota, and Riley County, Kansas, are mourning the tragic loss of Mark Frederic Ten Eyck, 74, who died following a bicycle crash on Tuesday afternoon just south of Manhattan. His passing has saddened family, friends, and all who knew him as they remember a life filled with cherished memories and meaningful connections.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the collision occurred at approximately 2:03 p.m. in the 3700 block of Pillsbury Drive, about three miles south of Manhattan. Preliminary investigators reported that Mr. Ten Eyck was riding his bicycle northbound along the right shoulder of Pillsbury Drive, which also serves as K-177 Highway in that area. Authorities said the bicycle entered the roadway in front of a northbound 2022 Subaru sport utility vehicle travelling in the same direction.
Emergency responders arrived promptly and transported Mr. Ten Eyck to a nearby hospital for treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he later succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Subaru, identified as 42-year-old Danielle Rae Jones of Kansas City, Missouri, was not injured in the collision. Officials confirmed she was wearing her seat belt and was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
The Kansas Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash to determine the factors that contributed to the incident. No additional information has been released at this time.
